The Journey Through Visual Culture: From Art Education to Personal Creative Space

Hi! I am Anastasia Kiper – the creator of the personal space about art, ART NEARBY. This site was created out of a love of visual culture, attention to detail and a personal desire to share my way of seeing the world — the belief that art is not limited to museums and galleries, but lives in everyday moments, waiting to be noticed.
I invite you to explore modern art together, notice the beauty in small things and look for meaning in the visual world.
Since childhood, I have seen beauty in the simplest things and have never understood why not everyone notices aesthetics in the world around them. Over time, I began to realize that beauty can not only be noticed, but also created — through an understanding of form, color, light, composition and the visual language of art.
I was lucky to grow up in a family partially connected with the creative industry. My father was a cameraman in the past, but today he is a film director and producer. I grew up watching his work: filming, editing, finding visual solutions, working with actors and behind-the-scenes filmmaking processes. I was fascinated by the emotions, the costumes, the atmosphere of the shot and the very process of turning an idea into a visual story. Even then, I realized that I wanted to connect my life with the visual world. Later, my parents saw my love for creativity and sent me to the Russian Art Academy in Moscow. Seven years of classical art education has become both a challenging and incredibly valuable experience. Painting, drawing, sculpture, art history, color theory, many hours of daily practice and plein-air taught me not only to create, but also to observe. It was there that I first came across the concept of “search” — the ability to notice the interesting in the seemingly ordinary and find visual value in even the simplest things. Later, my path continued through design, photography, cinema, contemporary art and university studies at the Faculty of Design, where I studied new forms of visual culture, 2D and 3D design , collages and the history of modern art.
One of the most memorable moments of my studies was the summer practice with the director of the art academy. We were a group of aspiring artists, standing in the middle of a seemingly completely ordinary space—a wasteland with grass, trees and an almost complete absence of anything “interesting.” We were given a simple task: to find something that would attract attention and draw it. Then walk through the same area, find something new and sketch again and again. We were doing the save things over 20 times. After several hours of work, when it seemed that there was nothing left to notice, the director told us about the concept of “search” — the artist’s ability to observe, see the unusual in the familiar and find visual value even in the simplest details. That was the first time I truly realized that art begins not only with technique or talent, but with the ability to look deeper and notice what most people pass by every day.
Today, for me, art is not only a creation, but also a way to live, explore the world and develop contemplation. Theater, cinema, galleries, exhibitions, visual culture, observing everyday life — all this helps a person become more attentive, understand the world more deeply and, perhaps, a little happier. This is what led me to create ART NEARBY.
For me, ART NEARBY is a personal space that grew out of artistic experience, visual observations and a desire to share my way of seeing the world. I believe that art exists not only in museums and galleries, but also in everyday details, culture, cinema, architecture and moments that we often overlook. Through ART NEARBY, I want to share my research, projects and observations, as well as create a space for people who are interested in exploring the art, culture and beauty around us.
